Freshest Japanese in Town – Robataya NYC

When we hit the East 9th Street again, a.k.a. Little Japan, we found this amazing place – the ROBATAYA NY.

On our last evening in New York we decided to have some great Japanese food in East Village. We heard about the Robataya, their entertaining cooking sessions with the freshest products.

At Robataya NY, where festive meets intimate, they pair organic,  local ingredients with their select Japanese counterparts.
Originating in the Sendai region of Japan, Robatayaki is a traditional Japanese barbecue where fresh seafood, savory meats and seasonal vegetables are grilled before you over an open hearth.
Whether you choose to sit at the lively counter or relax at the dining room near our Japanese garden, your dining experience at Robataya NY will be unlike any other in New York City.

When we walked in we found ourselves in a Japansese temple with a round counter, from where we had a complete sight of all the food processing.

Japanese cooks are seated in the middle of the counter, surrounded by fresh vegetables, fish and beef and a traditional grill, which makes an entertaining spectacle out of your dinner. The food is cooked to order and handed to diners on long paddles… It’s quite a show!

We had items from the grill selection as well as from the kitchen, and everything was excellent.

We ordered the Gindara Saikyo (grilled black cod), the grilled salmon, grilled asparagus, miso soup, edamame, the grilled Shimeji Mushroom and the Jagaimo grilled potato. The quality of the food and its taste was outstanding!

The fish melted in the mouth and the vegetables couldn’t have been better!

The Sake was served in a beautiful blue crystal carafe and was perfect with the food.

Even if the waiters were not Japanese, they spoke the laguage perfectly.

The whole atmosphere was very special and authentic.

It’s not the cheapest place to go to but totally worth it. As the restaurant is highly demanded, we suggest to make an reservation.
