The CFDA and SWAROVSKI announce the 2016 CFDA FASHION AWARDS NOMINEES & HONOREES

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and Swarovski announced the nominees and honorees for the 2016 CFDA Fashion Awards at an exclusive event hosted by Diane von Furstenberg and Nadja Swarovski at the New Museum in New York City on Wednesday, March 16th.

The 2016 CFDA Fashion Awards, in collaboration with Swarovski, will take place on Monday, June 6th at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. Guests enjoyed champagne and hors d’oeuvres, surrounded by views of the New York City skyline. Crystal touches, including a Swarovski crystal podium and Swarovski crystal strands, enhanced décor.

DJ May Kwok provided the evening’s soundtrack wearing a Tome Fall/Winter 2016 look made with Swarovski crystals and Atelier Swarovski jewelry. CFDA President and CEO Steven Kolb began proceedings by commending the 2016 Fashion Awards Guild for the record number of nominations this year. Von Furstenberg then thanked Nadja Swarovski and Swarovski for the ongoing collaboration in support of American fashion before the 2016 nominees and honorees were unveiled, with Nadja Swarovski announcing the nominees for the Swarovski Awards honoring emerging talent.

The nominees for the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award are Joseph Altuzarra for Altuzarra, Marc Jacobs, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler, Kate and Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte and Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen for The Row. The Menswear Designer of the Year Award nominees are Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne for Public School, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright for Rag & Bone, Thom Browne, Tim Coppens and Todd Snyder. For the Accessory Designer of the Year Award, the nominees are Joseph Altuzarra for Altuzarra, Irene Neuwirth, Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel for Mansur Gavriel, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler, and Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen for The Row. Brandon Maxwell, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia for Monse, and Ryan Roche have been nominated for the Swarovski Award for Womenswear.

The nominees for the Swarovski Award for Menswear are John Elliott, Rio Uribe for Gypsy Sport, and Alex Orley, Matthew Orley and Samantha Orley for Orley. For the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design, the nominees are Aurora James for Brother Vellies, Gigi Burris, and Paul Andrew. The Swarovski Award recipients in each category will receive generous financial support from Swarovski as well as exposure to the company’s vast and innovative Swarovski crystal resources. The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, named for the fiercely independent, four-time CFDA Fashion Award winner, will be presented to Norma Kamali. The Media Award, given in honor of Eugenia Sheppard, the influential journalist who revolutionized fashion reporting during her time at the New York City Herald Tribune, will be given to Imran Amed of The Business of Fashion.

The Founders Award, given in honor of CFDA founder Eleanor Lambert who is widely credited with putting American fashion on the map, will go to Donna Karan. The International Award will go to Alessandro Michele of Gucci for his creative contribution to the international fashion stage. David Bowie will posthumously receive the Board of Directors’ Tribute Award.
