View on Portovenere
Almost all of the hotel’s rooms have a sea view, with some exceptions in the cheapest category.
Our tip: When staying at the Grand Hotel Portovenere, make sure to book a corner room. With windows on both sides, you are basically dreaming right over the water. Moreover, the sea’s dreamy hue is reflected on the room walls.

WhatWeAdore’s experience at the Grand Hotel Portovenere
Upon arrival the friendly hotel staff welcomed us warmly and accompanied us to our room. One hour later the lovely Manager Irene, who made our stay even more fantastic, gave us a short tour of the hotel and showed us the hotel’s most important places and some rooms.
One thing is for sure, there is not one corner of this place that is not in perfect harmony with the hotel’s atmosphere and it’s location!
Hotel Lobby
Our tour ended on the breathtaking, spacious terrace with a view over the charming harbour and Palmaria, the biggest of the three Islands in the Gulf of La Spezia. You can see why Portovenere and the Cinque Terre have been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
While having the best cup of coffee of our lives, Irene explained us the history of the Cinque Terre region and she also gave us the best tips on which Cinque Terre town to visit first ( Riomaggiore and Vernazza) and where to have a beautiful, romantic walk (Via dell’Amore).
Cinque Terre Region
View from the hotel’s terrace
At night we recommend you to enjoy a good glass of the regional wine on the terrace of the hotel-owned Palmaria restaurant. It gives the best view on Portovenere city and its habour.

Hotel bar with a view
From the hotel bar you overlook the colourful houses and promenade, where the flow of people strolling around never wanes.
From afar you can hear the church bells ringing. The city has not one, but two beautiful, authentic churches (Saint Peter and Saint Lorenzo), whereas the one at the edge of the habour is nowadays a popular wedding setting.
For those of you that are still searching for the perfect wedding spot, we can confirm that by choosing the Portovenere Hotel in combination with the stunning beauty of the mediterreanean-kissed rock formations of Cinque Terre will assure you that your wedding day is the best day of the rest of your life.
Waking up at Grand Hotel Portovenere
After a long good night’s sleep we felt like Sleeping Beauty waking up from a long and peaceful dream. The warm sea breeze welcomed us when entering the breakfast room.
The beautifully decorated and cavern-like architecture of the open spaced rooms, makes it difficult to get your sight off the stunning interior. But believe us when we say, that there is nothing better than enjoying your breakfast on the sunny hotel terrace.
The variety of food, pastries and beverages will make it difficult to choose from richly covered buffet tables.
As pictures are worth a thousand words, have a look at our photos below and see for yourself.

The sublime view
We packed our bags heavy-hearted before going back to la Spezia, the capital of the Cinque Terre region. At this time we were yet to discover the culinary orgasm that was waiting for us.
