The Coolest Capsule in Paris Right Now – MOTHER x Merci
MOTHER x Merci – When California Cool Meets Parisian Spirit
When Los Angeles denim brand MOTHER joins forces with the iconic Paris concept store Merci, the result lands somewhere beautifully in between. The two brands unveil an 11-piece capsule collection expanding the playful universe of MOTHER’s Hail Mary line, blending American sports nostalgia with the relaxed elegance Parisians do so well.
The idea is simple but charming – take the visual language of vintage athletics and soften it. Less locker room bravado, more effortless femininity.
Sport, But Make It Paris
At the heart of the collection sits a wardrobe that nods to classic American sportswear. Think varsity references, striped rugby silhouettes, nostalgic graphics and slightly worn textures that feel like they have already lived a few good seasons.
But in the hands of MOTHER and Merci, the athletic codes are subtly reworked. Delicate embroidery replaces bold prints, fabrics feel softer, and the overall attitude leans toward romance rather than competition.
The capsule includes eight ready-to-wear pieces created by MOTHER, alongside three exclusive versions of Merci’s beloved tote bag, each finished with co-branded patches that quietly mark the collaboration.
The color palette carries the warmth of vintage sports uniforms – faded reds, soft creams, and gently washed tones that evoke sun-bleached afternoons on forgotten baseball fields.
It is nostalgic, but never costume-like.
A Pop-Up That Turns Merci Into a Stadium
The collaboration unfolds physically inside the Merci store in Paris, where the pop-up transforms the usually calm concept store into a playful athletic playground.
The courtyard becomes a small field, with Merci’s famous red car placed on grass and covered in custom Hail Mary stickers, watched over by an oversized baseball that feels almost cinematic in scale.
Inside the atrium, the installation continues the story. A full baseball diamond appears between the racks, complete with bleachers and graphic elements that celebrate the spirit of team rivalry. Further inside, lockers line the walls like a nostalgic locker room. A “wall of fame” invites visitors to step into the narrative and even pose at a custom photo backdrop reading MOTHER Class of 2026.
It is playful, immersive and slightly theatrical – exactly what a Paris concept store should feel like during a good collaboration.
Two Cult Brands, One Story
What makes the partnership particularly interesting is how naturally the two brands align.
MOTHER has built its identity around storytelling through clothes – slightly rebellious, vintage inspired, never overly serious. Merci, on the other hand, has long curated one of the most interesting retail spaces in Paris, mixing fashion, objects, and culture under one roof.
Together, they create something that feels both American and Parisian at once.
Relaxed but polished. Nostalgic yet modern.
The Hail Mary capsule reminds us that fashion, much like sport, is often about community. About shared references, friendly rivalries, and the joy of belonging to a team – even if the uniform happens to be a perfectly worn striped rugby shirt.
And in this case, the team colors look very good.
