Budatai- Condado, San Juan, Puerto Rico

When on vacation in San Juan, Puerto Rico, you always must start with cocktails. Of course you have to go fruity in the Caribbean.  Budatai had a great selection of hand crafted colorful cocktails.

We ordered the Rubytini, Iced Ketel Kolada, Cubano Viejo, and “Sex & a Smoke.” Although they were all great, my personal favorite was the Rubytini. It is a delectable mix of silver sake, Ketel One Vodka, black berries, cranberry juice, and fresh ginger syrup. Each sip was filled with the sweetness of the syrup, but tangy from the fresh berries.

Los dim sum (“the dim sum”) was served first.  Everything on the menu sounded so delicious, so we asked for a recommendation from our excellent server, Jennifer.  She quickly recommended the pork dumplings guisados served with shaved truffles and the calamari frito con cebolita dulce (fried calamari with sweet onions).  The dumplings were to die for.  I wanted to eat the whole plate alone.

Next came the dinner and wine, and once again we turned to Jennifer for help deciding, and again she nailed it!  We ordered the Ahi Tuna, Sword Fish Steak, and Filet Mignon.  The presentation of the  Ahi Tuna was beautiful.  It was seared to perfection, had taro tots and kombu sauce on top.

Who doesn’t love steak?  The filet was so succulent and grilled to a perfect medium.  The duck fat papas (potatoes) were crunchy yet mashed, and the Asian mushrooms just added the perfect side for such a flavorful meal.

I loved every bite I had of the Ahi Tuna and the Filet  Mignon, but the Sword Fish Steak was definitely my favorite!  It was paired perfectly with lobster mashed potatoes and roasted beets.

The food was outstanding, the space had great vibes, and the view of Condado’s beach was breathtaking. What is not to love?
