DAKOTA JOHNSON MAKES A CASE FOR BLUSH AT THE “VERITY” PREMIERE

Sequins, spaghetti straps and an almost-naked shade of pink: Dakota Johnson brought understated glamour to New York in custom Calvin Klein Collection.

There are dresses designed to make an entrance, and then there are dresses that simply seem to glow. Dakota Johnson chose the latter for the New York premiere of “Verity,” stepping out in a custom Calvin Klein Collection gown that made a convincing argument for keeping things beautifully simple.

The gown was covered in iridescent sequin embroidery, catching the light without turning the moment into a disco ball – always a delicate balance. Micro spaghetti straps and a dramatically open back kept the silhouette minimal, sensual and unmistakably Calvin Klein.

Against the excess that can sometimes define a red carpet, the look felt refreshingly controlled: barely-there colour, plenty of shimmer and a silhouette that did not need much explaining.

Johnson has long understood the power of looking as though she hasn’t tried too hard, even when, obviously, an immaculate custom gown is involved.

Sometimes the quietest dress in the room gets the most attention.
