OFFSCREEN Paris Returns with a Landmark Fifth Edition Dedicated to Ana Mendieta

Some art fairs are built around the market. Others are built around ideas.

Since its inception, OFFSCREEN Paris has carved out a singular place within Paris Art Week by championing artists whose work expands the language of the moving image. Photography, film, installation and video come together not as separate disciplines, but as different ways of questioning how we see the world.

From 20 to 25 October 2026, the fair returns to the remarkable Chapelle Saint-Louis de la Salpêtrière for its fifth edition, placing Ana Mendieta at the heart of a programme that continues to blur the boundaries between contemporary art, cinema and performance.

Ana Mendieta Takes Centre Stage

Following tributes to Anthony McCall, Rosa Barba, Chantal Akerman and Shigeko Kubota, this year’s edition honours one of the twentieth century’s most influential and poetic artists.

Through her iconic earth/body works, Ana Mendieta transformed the body into both subject and landscape. Fire, water, flowers and earth became extensions of her practice, while her celebrated Siluetas explored absence as powerfully as presence.

Less widely recognised, yet equally groundbreaking, is Mendieta’s prolific contribution to experimental film. Across more than one hundred works produced during the 1970s, she established a visual language that continues to shape generations of contemporary artists.

Presented by Marian Goodman Gallery in collaboration with the Estate of Ana Mendieta, the installation resonates with the artist’s major retrospective currently on view at Tate Modern, reaffirming the enduring relevance of her work.

Institutions in Dialogue

For the second consecutive year, OFFSCREEN expands its Acquisitions & Discoveries programme by welcoming two of the art world’s leading institutions: Pinault Collection and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Installed within the historic Magasins of the Chapelle Saint-Louis, both collections will present works that enter into dialogue with the fair’s curatorial programme, reinforcing OFFSCREEN’s ambition to create meaningful exchanges between artists, collectors and institutions.

Rather than functioning as a traditional art fair, OFFSCREEN continues to position itself as a platform for discovery – one where historical voices and contemporary practices coexist, and where moving image becomes a medium for reflection rather than spectacle.

As Paris once again becomes the centre of the international art world this October, OFFSCREEN reminds us that the most compelling exhibitions are often the ones that ask us not simply to look, but to see.
