Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam – The Place To Sleep

How to find Parisian elegance and grandeur in Amsterdam?

It was my very first time in Amsterdam, yes, that’s kind of strange, as I’m a Berlinoise. We’re like neighbors, even in the language. And so it turend out that it was the best idea to spend our first night at the Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam.

As we arrived in Amsterdam from Paris, it was already dark outside and we walked into the courtyard with a beautiful brick building, lighted up and looked like a hidden palace in the middle of the city.

We were welcomed warmly, our very sympathetic personal butler told us a little bit about the history of Amsterdam and the hotel and explained us, that the hotel welcomes a variety of visitors, from the trendy Amsterdam elite to famous international movie stars.

The hotel is a blend of French elegance and Dutch style elements. Our beautiful Junior Suite was the perfect place to escape from the hectic Parisian city life. It was calme, with a big room,  very high ceilings, a bathroom of everyone’s dreams and a bed you never want to leave again. Relaxation is pure. We especially enjoyed the bose sound system in the room!

It took over two years of extensive renovation and remodelling to produce something truly remarkable: a five-star luxury hotel that meets the highest demands of modern-day travellers. The best way to become a legend, where travel and accommodation are always en vogue.

It’s not for nothing that the Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam won the ‘Hotel of the Year Award’ in the category ‘Best Hotel Netherlands 2015’.

To become a market leader, one needs to excel in everything. And that includes fundamental, everyday conveniences. Not a single detail can be left to chance: comfortable beds that are fit for a king, courtesy of the renowned Sofitel “MyBed” sleeping concept, a menu of cushions, Hermès bathroom products, Nespresso coffee and tea facilities, WiFi internet connection, Bose sound system and Philips LCD flatscreen TV in every room. And, of course, the best way to become a legend is to extend a warm welcome and to offer refined services. The daily rituals of the sommelier, the “Les Clefs d’Or” concierge, the housekeeper and the butlers offer considerate and devoted attention, anticipating and meeting the needs of each guest. Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam is the embodiment of hospitality.

The students of the Design Academy of Eindhoven used images of legendary persons from the history of the building as a source of inspiration: their creative contribution with historical influences is draped across the 177 rooms including 52 suites with Butler Service. After all the hotels we reviewed, we must say that having a Butler Service in addition to the suites is quite rare. Our Butler was a wonderful person, helping us in each way. He gave us great tips and organised bicycles.

When it comes to the best food in Amsterdam, the restaurant ‘Bridges’ is on the top list.

While Paris is famous for its Eiffel Tower, tourists come to Amsterdam to see its canals. The restaurant is located on the oldest canal in Amsterdam, where the movement and reflections of the water were the source of inspiration for the designer.

Here you can eat the best fish in Amsterdam. From bouillabaisse to sea bass in salt crust, Chef de Cuisine Bobby Rust is always looking for creative ways to make classic traditional dishes perfect with a unique twist. In August 2015 Bridges was totally redesigned. French interior designer Christophe Daudré has turned it into an even more inviting, elegant and warm dining hotspot. In November 2013 Bridges was awarded with a Michelin Star.

Our breakfast at the Bridges was perfect from A to Z, the service what impeccable and the food more than a satisfying.

We had a big breakfast with bagels, salmon, omlettes and bacon, saussages, fruit salads, fresh orange juice, croissants and Crément. I’m still dreaming of the omlette and its authentic taste…

After breakfast we went over to the SoSPA in the first floor, where I had an amazing Anti-Aging treatment with a personal consultation. The whole story will be Part II of our review.

Last but not least, the location of the hotel is perfect, everything you need is in walking distance and all funny entertainment is just next door!

And when you leave it will feel like it was a dream…

Thank you to the wonderful staff of the hotel who made our stay so brilliant.

This is the place to sleep and to dream while awake.
