With this delightful retreat on this idyllic island off the west coast of Scotland, Vanessa Branson and her team invite guests to escape reality in a calm and enchanting setting, away from traffic and noise, to delight the senses. Beyond its incredible beauty, the island seems like something out of a fairytale, like the timeless story of Peter Pan and J.M. Barrie’s aptly named Neverland.

“As you can imagine, building on a isolated Scottish island was not without its difficulties. Materials could only be delivered at high tide, and teams of workers, technicians and craftsmen had to commute by boat every day come rain or shine. However, instead of demoralising me, these obstacles channelled me. I put all my love and attention into recreating life on the island. We’ve focused on high quality standards, from my grandfather’s teak desk to the copper bathtub created in the souks of Marrakech. The sublime Hästens bed, overlooking the loch and its ruined castle, completes this image of elegant, made-to-measure luxury. To accompany works carefully selected by her, art expert Vanessa Branson therefore sought a bed capable of embodying and combining exceptional aesthetics with extraordinary comfort while blending into the seductive atmosphere of the retreat. Guests can now enjoy their best night’s sleep in a handcrafted Hästens drēmər bed created in collaboration with world-renowned designer Ferris Rafauli. At the foot of the bed is the motto “drēmər – The Day Is Yours”, a motto that becomes reality when you embark on the fairytale that is Eilean Shona.
